Meehan Auditorium at Brown

Brown University’s Meehan Auditorium first phase renovation project is complete. The 5,000 sqft space includes locker rooms, equipment storage areas, lounges, training room, ice rink arena, seating areas, and new and existing mechanical rooms.

Arden Engineering Constructors handled the mechanical / HVAC, which included equipment installation, piping, and controls for energy recovery, ventilation for heat and humidity, refrigerant, dehumidification for hydrotherapy, and the arena.

Underground prefabricated chilled water distribution piping was installed under the Pizzaiola Sports Center and the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center to the Meehan Auditorium. The system ties into the existing chilled water pipe from the Central Plant. A live tap was connected to the branch line of the main system to avoid shutting down or affecting the campus.

Unique Metal Works handled the sheet metal scope, installing prefabricated duct in the existing mechanical room for new ERUs heat and cooling coils and tied into the existing system. They also installed temporary ductwork and duct sox to assist in dehumidification and temperature control during the ongoing installation. When final tie-ins to units are completed in phase two, the duct sox will permanently dehumidify the ice rink.
