Largest Project Completed in 2018
Our largest project for 2018, the City of Bridgeport’s Central High School (CHS), was completed by MJ Daly, an Arden Building Company, located in Waterbury, Connecticut. The project became a reality due to the joint effort of state and local officials. Bridgeport Central High School is one of the largest high schools in the region and has an enrollment of 1,900 students in grades 9 through 12.
The project was carried out over four years and included 13 construction phases. Renovations were made to the existing 265,000 square foot school while classes were still in session. Temporary classrooms were created as part of the project which allowed students to move into sections of the building as they were completed. The new construction added 16,000 square feet to the facility and included an auxiliary gym and additional classrooms.
MJ Daly executed all the mechanical construction and hazardous material removal. New mechanical HVAC equipment was installed to support the entire school which included 64 air handling units, five boilers, two chillers, and two cooling towers. MJ Daly also provided temporary heat during construction and renovations.
Over 7,600 feet of steel pipe was installed over the course of one summer school vacation just three and a half weeks. MJ Daly utilized a prefabricated welded piping system designed to be bolted together in the field using steel pipe flanges.
MJ Daly also installed a new sprinkler system and a Honeywell HVAC automation building control system which will generate significant energy savings while providing efficient comfort for the faculty and students of Bridgeport Central High School.
