Brown University’s new Performing Arts Center (PAC) accommodates the 80,000 sqft radical design, a work of art itself. The building exterior is composed of an extruded aluminum rain-screen with a horizontal clearstory (glass walls) that reveals the interior areas. The performance hall can modulate physically and acoustically, with the capability to move walls, floors, seats, ceilings, and lights for five configurations to accommodate performance type.

As shown below, Arden Engineering installed exterior copper piping-over 400 feet under the perimeter of the building, which was connected to 70 fabricated fin-tube boxes to provide heating and ensure a consistent environment for visibility through the “clearstory.” Interior and rooftop plumbing and HVAC work included the installation of hot and chilled water main piping to AHUs, an electric steam boiler with domestic hot water, and multiple rooftop units.
